Coverage

Ofcom predicts our indoor coverage reaches around one million adults across Manchester and Salford.

Coverage is based on modelling, so real reception varies with location, the type of building, your radio and local conditions.

Our transmitter network

We run several transmitters that overlap across Manchester and Salford. If one site fails, the others keep delivering coverage across much of the area.

A carrier-grade network carries your output, along with every other service, to each transmitter, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Audio quality

Audio quality is measured in kilobits per second (kbps). We broadcast in DAB+, which sounds close to FM at 40kbps, using 30 capacity units (CUs) at error protection level 3-A.

The more capacity your service uses, the better it sounds, and the higher the carriage charge.

Monitoring

Our network operations centre monitors every signal we receive, encode, multiplex and distribute, around the clock. If your audio drops out, we can arrange alerts.
